ASU recognized in SmartResume’s 2025 LER Ecosystem SmartReport
For the third year in a row, ASU — including Trusted Learner Network (TLN) and ASU Pocket — is featured in SmartResume’s LER Ecosystem SmartReport, securing its spot as a leader in the Learning and Employment Record (LER) and verifiable credential space.
The report focuses on the data standards that make LERs “verifiable, portable and controlled by learners, and the ecosystem that has emerged to scale LERs and create value for both learners and employers.”
How it works
In the report, LER ecosystem is defined in the report as the companies, institutions and organizations that issue, share and consume Open Badges v.2.0 and 3.0 credentials, Comprehensive Learner Network (CLR) Standard v.1.0 and 2.0 from 1EdTech Consortium and the Learner and Employment Record-Resume Standard (LER-RS) developed by the HR Open Standards Consortium, LLC.
To produce the report, SmartResume interviewed and collected data and knowledge from 36 subject matter experts, including Kate Giovacchini, Executive Director of the TLN and ASU Pocket. Giovacchini has been a contributor to the report for the past two years.
Areas where ASU excels
The report features three infographics: first is the LER data flow, which explains what formats are issued where and how they flow between tech across this ecosystem.
The second infographic is of the LER ecosystem and includes the categories of ecosystems and those participating parties in each category. In the participants infographic, ASU is featured as an Organizational Issuer in the Post-Secondary Education category, while TLN is specifically mentioned in the Open Badge Issuing Platforms, VC Exchange Network and Trust Registries sections. ASU Pocket is also highlighted as a White Label Wallet Tech Provider.
New this year, the report features a Higher Education Adoption Curve, which was developed based on self-reported information from a survey, where institutions are placed along the adoption curve based on the percentage of students who have earned an LER credential. In the Higher Education LER Landscape infographic, ASU is featured as a leader in the LER space, with 65% of students holding an LER credential.
"We are thrilled to stand alongside other trailblazers in the digital credential and LER community,” said Giovacchini. “This recognition reinforces our mission to bridge the gap between learners and their verified achievements, inspiring us to push even harder to empower students and drive meaningful progress for the future of higher education and beyond."
