The TLN Problem Space (visual diagram)

The TLN Problem Space diagram shows the connection between layers of the Trusted Learner Network Infrastructure (a.k.a. the “TLN problem space”), the “Learner,” and 2 categories of applications: “SSI-Driven Wallet Applications” and other “Applications that Serve the Learner.” The components of the diagram are listed below, explaining what’s at the top, middle, and bottom of the visual and how each component is connected with the other.

Layer Icon and/or Label Titles Icon and/or Label Description
Top Layer "Learner" At the top of the diagram is an icon representing a “Learner” with two arrows branching out from the “Learner” icon to two types of applications: “SSI-Driven Wallet Applications” (to the bottom left of the “Learner”) and “Applications that Serve the Learner” (which is positioned to the bottom right of the “Learner” icon).
Middle Layer "SSI-Driven Wallet Applications" & "Applications that serve the learner"

To the lower-left of the “Learner” icon is a graphic representing “SSI-Driven Wallet Applications” with accompanying text that states “Identity and credential curation occurs in wallets such as ‘Pocket.’”

(For additional information on ASU’s “Pocket” wallet, you can visit pocket.asu.edu)

To the lower right of the “Learner” icon is a graphic representing (other) “Applications that Serve the Learner.” There is no accompanying text beside this graphic.

Both the “SSI-Driven Wallet Applications” graphic and “Applications that Serve the Learner” graphic have respective arrows connecting below to the “TLN Problem Space” contained diagram graphic.

Bottom Layer

(broken down into subsections: a,b,c, and d)

“TLN Problem Space”

(subsections of which include: “Trusted Learner Network Data and Management Layers,” “Trusted Learner Network Infrastructure,” icons representing various institutions, and “Trusted Learner Governance Layer”)

The “TLN Problem Space” represents a contained diagram graphic which includes sublayers or subsections including (from top to bottom):

a) The “Trusted Learner Network Data and Management Layers” (of the TLN Problem Space), with accompanying subtext explaining “Services Layer makes application builds possible”

b) The “Trusted Learner Network Infrastructure” (of the TLN Problem Space) with accompanying subtext indicating the infrastructure includes a “Cryptographically secure repository of credentials”

Note: “The Trusted Learner Network Data and Management Layers” and “Trusted Learner Network Infrastructure” represent technical infrastructure, business rules engine, and API-type services to store, retain, and manage credentials.

c) In this section (of the TLN Problem Space), there are several icons representing schools/institutions/credential providers with arrows demonstrating information sharing between these entities and the “Trusted Learner Network Infrastructure.”

d) The “Trusted Learner Governance Layer” (of the TLN Problem Space) includes accompanying subtext explaining “Codesigned governance dictates what may create credentials”

Note: The icons representing schools/institutions/credential providers Layer and the “Trusted Learner Governance Layer” both consist of “Diverse institutions and credential providers, such as CCs (Community Colleges), 4-years, and accrediting agencies.”
